Governance & Transparency

ThatDay Charitable Trust is a registered New Zealand charity (CC59983). We are committed to operating responsibly, transparently and in support of our charitable purpose.

Our goal is to help New Zealanders better understand retirement planning and make more informed decisions about their financial futures. ThatDay provides free educational information and planning tools. We do not provide personalised financial, tax, legal or investment advice.

Our Governance

ThatDay is governed by a board of trustees. The trustees are responsible for overseeing the Trust’s direction, activities, finances and compliance obligations.

The board reviews ThatDay’s activities to ensure they remain consistent with the Trust’s charitable purpose and continue to provide a public benefit.

Our Trustees

Paul Mason — Founder and Trustee

Paul founded ThatDay after selling his cycle apparel business in 2020. A graphic designer turned entrepreneur, Paul built ThatDay on the conviction that most New Zealanders have more control over their retirement than they realise — and that spending more consciously is better for both financial freedom and the planet.

Bernie Allen — Trustee

Bernie brings decades of legal expertise to the ThatDay board, having had a long career in commercial and dispute resolution law in New Zealand. Now retired, he remains actively engaged in causes he believes in — and ThatDay's mission of helping New Zealanders achieve genuine financial freedom is one of them.

Peter Brennan — Trustee

Peter has spent more than 30 years in strategic property and asset management, working across both the public and private sectors in New Zealand and internationally. He brings strong governance experience and a practical understanding of long-term financial planning to the ThatDay board.

How We Operate

  • Financial management and reporting
  • Relationships with funding and service partners

  • The protection and responsible use of personal information

Funding and Independence

ThatDay is supported by organisations that share our interest in improving financial wellbeing in New Zealand.

Support from a funding or service partner does not give that organisation control over ThatDay’s educational content, calculations or planning tools. ThatDay does not receive commissions for referring users to its partners, and users are not required to purchase any product or service.
